School Meals

Cooked meals are prepared in the school kitchen on the premises. They offer children a wide variety of healthy foods. There is a vegetarian choice available each day as well as the main choice. We also offer a variety of sandwiches and jacket potatoes. We have recently added a salad bar to encourage children to make healthy choices. (check out the menu at the bottom of the page to see what is available.)
The meals are eaten in the hall and the current cost is£2.00. a day or £10.00 a week. We ask that all dinner money should be paid at the start of the week.

Information about free school meals can be obtained from Revenues and Benefits at the Civic Centre on 0191 4333729.

Children can bring their own packed lunches. They are also eaten in the hall. As part of our healthy school programme we ask that children don't bring chocolate or fizzy drinks to school.

Sweets are not allowed at school. Children in the Foundation stage and key stage 1 are provided with fruit at break time as part of the government's national scheme.

Healthy Dinners at Highfield!

At Highfield we want all children to choose to eat a healthy meal every day. To support children get into a lifetime routine of eating healthily we run a healthy dinner scheme in school.

The scheme works as follows:

  • Choose a healthy meal and receive a raffle ticket.
  • Eat all of your healthy meal.
  • Write your name on your raffle ticket and put it into the box.
  • Every Friday in the merit assembly a winner from Key Stage 2 and a winner from Key Stage 1/Early Years will be drawn and they will receive a prize, certificate and their photo on this website!
